This article describes results of sociological research that aims to explaina social conflict over a landholding in Dagestan, Russia. The research was carried out within qualitative research methodology on the basis of interviews, observations and group discussions held at the landholding and in communities of the conflict participants. The article shows how interaction of different layers of social structure launches a mechanism of social conflict. The community that once done through deportation and now lives in a settlement on the edge of Makhachkala, characterized by Electronic copy available at: http://ssrn.com/abstract=2491458 high level of social depression and separated socially, symbolically and spatially from the city, cherishes discourse on deportation and land seizure. This leads to social movement organization which occupies a landholding next to Makhachkala that is already an object of interest of different actors. A “hot stage” of the conflict begins when social movement participants cut off free access to the beach for members of other communities.
